Randy Houser Felt a Personal ‘Connection’ to His Character From ‘The Hill’

Randy Houser is stepping into a new role with the upcoming drama, The Hill, giving a tribute to the father figure in his life with his character.

During an interview with the “How Country Feels” artist, Showbiz Cheat Sheet learned more about Houser’s character in this film and why it was so important for him to be involved in The Hill.

The journey of Ricky Hill proves that with hard work, talent, and passion, anything is possible. The Hill, directed by Jeff Celentano, tells the true story of one child with a passion for baseball and the “miracle” that makes his dream a reality.

The film stars Dennis Quaid (The Day After Tomorrow, The Parent Trap) and country music artist Houser, who describes himself as “fairly new” to acting.

Houser portrays Ray Clemens, a “father figure” to the main character. This was a particularly significant role for Houser, as the musician explained that there was a person in his life who became a second father to him.

“For a lot of my life, I sort of grew up without a dad, you know, and but I had those men and tapped into my life at the right times that encouraged me to keep pushing and to become a man and make something of myself,” Houser explained.

Ricky Hill’s experience is considered “miraculous” by some, but the story is still relatable to most viewers. Even Houser shared that his character, in particular, mirrored one person who was instrumental in his upbringing.

“There was a guy that sort of really pushed me… and supported me and encouraged me and all those things. He’s very special to me,” Houser added. “When I read the script and the character, it just reminded me so much of him.”

“I wanted to do this, sort of, a tribute to that kind of character and also to just encourage men to find those people — there’s a lot of homes that don’t have dads or nuclear families,” he continued. “And it’s cool to try to slip into that role.”

Houser is known for his songs like “How Country Feels” and “Runnin’ Outta Moonlight,” both received recognition at the CMT Music Awards and earned millions of Spotify plays. In 2020, the musician released “Love Will Turn You Around.”

Outside of his work on The Hill, Houser is currently preparing for his 2022 North American tour and the release of his upcoming album. Additionally, Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon (now in its post-production stage) features Houser as Scott Mathis.

The Hill is currently in its production phase, with more information presumably being announced in the coming months. Until then, music by Houser is available on most major streaming platforms.
