BTS: Jimin and V’s Song ‘Friends’ Will Appear in Marvel’s ‘Eternals’

BTS released their studio album Map of the Soul: 7 on Feb. 21, 2020. The album includes a sub-unit song called “Friends” that features Jimin and V of BTS. The song details Jimin and V’s friendship, and it was co-written and co-produced by Jimin. Recently, it was confirmed that “Friends” will be featured in the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe film, Eternals.

There are seven members in BTS: Jin, Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V, and Jungkook. Both Jimin and V were born in 1995 and the two have a close friendship. Their friendship is often referred to as “Vmin” by fans.

“Friends,” which was co-written and co-produced by Jimin, showcases Jimin and V’s friendship throughout the years. Together, the two BTS members reference their past, inside jokes, and affirm they are soulmates with the song’s lyrics.

“One day when this cheer dies down, stay (Ayy), hey (Ayy) / You are my soulmate / For eternity, keep staying here, stay (Ayy), hey (Ayy) / You are my soulmate / Longer than seven summers and cold winters / Longer than numerous promises and memories,” the two BTS members sing in “Friends” according to a translation by Genius.

Eternals is set to be released on Nov. 5. The MCU film stars Gemma Chan, Richard Madden, Kumail Nanjiani, Angelina Jolie, Kit Harington, Brian Tyree Henry, Lauren Ridloff, Lia McHugh, Barry Keoghan, Don Lee, Harish Patel, and Salma Hayek.  

The film is based on comics by the same name and was directed by Chloé Zhao. It is part of Phase Four of the MCU.

After it was alleged that “Friends” will be featured in Eternals, The Walt Disney Company Korea confirmed the BTS song is part of the movie’s original soundtrack.

Soompi reports that “The Walt Disney Company Korea confirmed that ‘Friends’ from BTS’s fourth studio album ‘Map of the Soul: 7’ will be included in the film… With its sincere message about friendship, the song ‘Friends’ will be played in a specific scene in ‘Eternals.’ In addition to BTS, the OST lineup includes world-renowned artists such as Carl Perkins, Skeeter Davis, Merle Haggard, Pink Floyd, Lizzo, and more.”

After the rumor of “Friends” being featured in Eternals was confirmed, BTS fans discussed the news on social media.

“I’m so happy about this! Hopefully it will be a confidence boost for Jimin and his songwriting! I think the guys are Marvel fans too (I think I recall JK and Jimin at least mentioning the films) so they should be over the moon with this! Manifesting a Vmin vlive to celebrate it,” one fan wrote on Reddit.

“Ok fine I’ll watch the Eternals for this loooool,” wrote a Reddit user.

“This is such an interesting song choice, especially given that the lyrical content is sooooo specific to vmin’s friendship…,” wrote a fan on Reddit.

Eternals will be in movie theaters in the U.S. beginning on Nov. 5.
