Kel Mitchell to Run Virtual 6K on Behalf of World Vision; How Fans Can Join [Exclusive]

Kel Mitchell is more than an actor and comedian; he’s a father, pastor, and activist working with World Vision, a Christian humanitarian organization. Showbiz Cheat Sheet caught up with the Deliciousness star to talk about his partnership with the non-profit, where Mitchell mentioned the upcoming 6K, which is happening in May 2022. Learn more about the virtual run and how you can sign up to participate.

Kel Mitchel is running a virtual 6K with World Vision on May 21

On Saturday, May 21, Mitchell and his family will join thousands of people around the globe in the world’s largest virtual 6K walk/run for clean water on behalf of World Vision. Every $50 raised means clean water for one person.

Helping youth and families is what drives Mitchell in every area of his life, and it’s also why he decided to partner with the non-profit. “I love World Vision,” the Nickelodeon star told us. “They have the same passion as I do for youth and changing youth’s lives and giving them love and showing love.”

World Vision is the ‘largest non-governmental provider of clean water’

According to World Vision’s website, they are a registered 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to “working with children, families, and their communities worldwide to reach their full potential by tackling the causes of poverty and injustice. World Vision is the largest non-governmental provider of clean water in the world, bringing sustainable clean water to a new person every 10 seconds.”

World Vision’s virtual 6K represents the walk kids take to access water

“The truth is a lot of kids do not have clean water all over the world,” the Deliciousness commentator said during our conversation. “It’s crazy. [World Vision is] changing that, and I want to be a part of changing that, too.”

He explained further: “[Some kids] literally have to travel six kilometers just to get clean water. That’s like a three mile run to get water for their family.”

Mitchell said a lot of the time, young women in these communities are responsible for procuring water for their families. These young women have to carry “buckets of water that are like the size of a microwave” for three miles.

“When you register at, World Vision will provide clean water, build wells [so these communities can] have clean water, and sponsor a kid as well,” Mitchell added. By signing up, you’ll also receive a photo of the child you’re sponsoring and a t-shirt.

“I love what [the shirt] says on it,” Mitchell said, reading: “Every step you take is one they won’t have to.”

This year, Mitchell will be running with his family on May 21. “I did it last year as well; I ran with my kids with the strollers and we just had a blast,” he concluded. The run isn’t timed, but participants can share photos on social media of their progress using #6KforWater.

As Mitchell said, anyone can participate in this virtual 6K. “You can get on the treadmill — you can do it wherever,” the actor encouraged. There’s still time; register through World Vision’s site today.
