‘Vanderpump Rules’ Season 9: Andy Cohen Breaks Silence and Gives Update on Filming

Vanderpump Rules has been off the air since June 2020 when Bravo aired a three-part reunion. The Lisa Vanderpump-led show has suffered major setbacks. Several cast members were fired over racist actions and the pandemic forced restaurants to close down. Season 9 has not started filming yet and Andy Cohen finally provided an update on its current status.

Bravo has not officially canceled Vanderpump Rules and the future of the reality series is to be determined. Fans of the popular show have been extra antsy to see their favorite bartenders return to TV as January was usually when the show premiered. However, this year might be a year with no new season as they canceled filming.

A fan asked Cohen on Watch What Happens Live what the tea on the new season was and he gave an update on the status.

“The restaurants in LA are not open,” Cohen answered. “Hopefully once LA opens up they’ll start rolling… I hope.”

Stassi Schroeder, Kristen Doute, and two other Vanderpump Rules cast members were fired from the show last summer. The cable network distanced itself from the reality TV personalities for controversial views on race.

In December 2020, Jax Taylor confirmed he and his wife Brittany Cartwright would also be leaving the series. The couple is expecting their first baby together after showcasing their marriage during season 8.

“The last 8 years on Vanderpump Rules have been some of the most challenging, rewarding, and fulfilling years of my life,” Taylor posted on Instagram announcing his exit. “Although this is difficult to share, Brittany and I will not be returning for another season of Vanderpump Rules. We are excited to take this time to focus on our growing family and share with you our new endeavors.”

After Taylor and Cartwright made their announcement, Cohen took to his SiriusXM show to share his reaction to the news.

“Have you seen a run on a — specifically Jax — like, Jax created so much story, drama, conversation in his eight years on that show. That’s quite a run that he had,” Cohen said on Radio Andy. “He will go down as one of the biggest, you know, reality stars in their moment, don’t you think? That was an incredible run that they had.”

Back in November 2020, Cohen talked about the impact Vanderpump Rules had on TV despite its recent controversies. He also weighed in on what the show would look like amid the pandemic.

“I think they’re going to have real drama built into her reopening this restaurant after a pandemic,” Cohen said on the Everything Iconic podcast. “I actually think in an odd way that’s going to create a lot of story that is absolutely real, and they’ll be able to lean into it.”

About Doute and Schroeder not being in the cast anymore he said, “And frankly, Stassi and Kristen didn’t work there anymore. They’re both brilliant characters on television. I think it will be interesting to see whose there and who’s not and what’s really happening. I think they’ll have a better time doing that and they’ll be a lot of built stuff that’s actually happening.”

Vanderpump Rules is available on Hulu and Peacock to stream all episodes.
